Tech companies should stop pretending AI won’t destroy jobs

No matter what anyone tells you, we’re not ready for the massive societal upheavals on the way. February 21, 2018,     by  Kai-Fu Lee  It will soon be obvious that half our tasks can be done better at almost no cost by AI. This will be the fastest transition humankind has experienced, and we’re not ready for it. I took an Uber to an artificial-intelligence conference at MIT one recent morning, and the driver asked me how long it would take for autonomous vehicles to take away his job. I told him it would happen in about 15 to 20 years. He breathed a sigh of relief. “Well, I’ll be retired by then,” he said. Good thing we weren’t in China. If a driver there had asked, I would have had to tell him he’d lose his job in about 10 years—maybe 15 if he was lucky. That might sound surprising, given […]

Humanoid robot

   1.  Will Artificial Intelligence eliminate Humans life?      By Electronics Media – November 25, 2017 This is a topic which is being discussed for a long time. Many scientists have raised several questions about it and everyone has different views on this. On this topic, 75-year-old famous scientist Stephen Hawking said that we are moving towards destruction with increasing AI Technology. According to Mr. Hawking, the way we are becoming dependent on artificial intelligence; the day is no longer when Artificial Intelligence will replace human beings. We should think about this topic because we are standing in the phase of technology where it is impossible to return back. Global population is increasing, which is a threat bell for us. According to Hawking, we are in danger of self-destruction for which we have to think and not only think we have to act. Prior to this, SpaceX CEO Elon […]

Why All Companies Need An AI Strategy

This Is Why All Companies Need An AI Strategy Today Rita Waite (@ritacwaite) is a Growth Strategy & Investments Manager at Juniper Networks, where she focuses on emerging networking technologies. She is Juniper’s representative and observer to the Board of Directors of several portfolio companies. Rita is also a VP of West-to-West, an organization that promotes and supports Portuguese entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley. Rita graduated from the University of San Diego with a B.A. in Economics. The following is a guest post by Rita C. Waite, a Growth Strategy & Investments Manager at Juniper Networks. Any AI effort will rely on three main building blocks: data, infrastructure, and talent. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is fundamentally changing how businesses operate across all sectors, including manufacturing, healthcare, IT, and transportation. Advancements in AI over the last decade are presenting opportunities for companies to automate business processes, transform customer experiences, and differentiate products offerings. AI pioneers like Google and Amazon, who […]

AI : Difference Between ML and DL.

Difference Between Machine Learning And Deep Learning Deep learning and machine learning both offer ways to train models and classify data. This article compares the two and it offers ways to help you decide which one to use. Let’s start by discussing the classic example of cats versus dogs. Now, in this picture do you see a cat or a dog? How are you able to answer? That chances are you’ve seen many cats and dogs over time and so you’ve learned how to identify them. This is essentially what we’re trying to get a computer to do. Learn from and recognize examples Also keep in mind that sometimes even humans can get identification wrong. So we might expect a computer to make similar errors. To have a computer do classification using a standard machine learning approach, we’d manually select the relevant features of an image such as edges or […]

Natural Language Processing

Oxford Course On Deep Learning For Natural Language Processing Deep Learning methods achieve state-of-the-art results on a suite of natural language processing problems. What makes this exciting is that single models are trained end-to-end, replacing a suite of specialized statistical models. The University of Oxford in the UK teaches a course on Deep Learning for Natural Language Processing and much of the materials for this course are available online for free.(https://machinelearningmastery.com) This is an advanced course on natural language processing. Automatically processing natural language inputs and producing language outputs is a key component of Artificial General Intelligence. The ambiguities and noise inherent in human communication render traditional symbolic AI techniques ineffective for representing and analysing language data. Recently statistical techniques based on neural networks have achieved a number of remarkable successes in natural language processing leading to a great deal of commercial and academic interest in the field This is an […]

Strong AI Vs. Weak AI

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the field of computer science dedicated to developing machines that will be able to mimic and perform the same tasks just as a human would. AI researchers spend time on finding a feasible alternative to the human mind. The rapid development of computers after its arrival 50 years ago has helped the researchers take great steps towards this goal of mimicking a human. Modern day applications like speech recognition, robots playing chess, table tennis and playing music have been making the dream of these researchers true. But according to AI philosophy, AI is considered to be divided in to two major types, namely Weak AI and Strong AI. Weak AI is the thinking focused towards the development of technology capable of carrying out pre-planned moves based on some rules and applying these to achieve a certain goal. As opposed to that, Strong AI is developing technology […]

Obstacles To Progress In Artificial Intelligence

Obstacles To Progress In Artificial Intelligence:    Yann LeCun The essence of intelligence is the ability to predict. Prediction, perception, planning/reasoning, attention, and memory are the pillars of intelligence. Both animals and humans learn to predict, learn how the world works, and acquire common sense largely without supervision, through observation and experimentation. This is a far cry from supervised learning—the basis of most recent successes in the application of deep learning. Significant progress in AI will require breakthroughs in unsupervised/predictive learning, as well as in reasoning, attention, and episodic memory. Yann LeCun describes several projects at FAIR and NYU on unsupervised learning for predicting videos using adversarial training, question answering with a new type of memory-augmented network, and various applications for vision and natural language understanding
