Healthcare cybersecurity.

Digital Health’s cybersecurity imperative   This article was written by Dave Anderson and originally was published on BlackRidge Technology blog   If you haven’t already heard, the age of digital health is upon us. And for healthcare providers, patients and consumers, it’s about time Digital health, sometimes referred to as eHealth or Mobile Health, comprises many elements, but for this inquiry I’ll focus on defining digital health as how healthcare companies, hospitals and care services companies, and patients are adopting and using wireless devices, hardware sensors, software sensing technologies, the Internet, social networking, health info tech, personal health devices or wearables, and mobile connectivity to empower more efficient tracking, management, and delivery of “healthcare.” Already, digital health has shown the ability to improve our own and our family’s health and live more productive lives. Digital health reduces many of the inefficiencies in healthcare delivery, it improves access to healthcare information and services, […]

Tech companies should stop pretending AI won’t destroy jobs

No matter what anyone tells you, we’re not ready for the massive societal upheavals on the way. February 21, 2018,     by  Kai-Fu Lee  It will soon be obvious that half our tasks can be done better at almost no cost by AI. This will be the fastest transition humankind has experienced, and we’re not ready for it. I took an Uber to an artificial-intelligence conference at MIT one recent morning, and the driver asked me how long it would take for autonomous vehicles to take away his job. I told him it would happen in about 15 to 20 years. He breathed a sigh of relief. “Well, I’ll be retired by then,” he said. Good thing we weren’t in China. If a driver there had asked, I would have had to tell him he’d lose his job in about 10 years—maybe 15 if he was lucky. That might sound surprising, given […]

Fourth Industrial Revolution

The world is changing. Here’s how companies must adapt this article is the part of The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting,   /  written by Joe Kaeser The Fourth Industrial Revolution will eliminate millions of jobs and create millions of new ones. Image:     / REUTERS   Although we have only seen the beginning, one thing is already clear: the Fourth Industrial Revolution is the greatest transformation human civilization has ever known. As far-reaching as the previous industrial revolutions were, they never set free such enormous transformative power. The Fourth Industrial Revolution is transforming practically every human activity: the way we make things; the way we use the resources of our planet; the way we communicate and interact with each other as humans; the way we learn; the way we work; the way we govern; and the way we do business. Its scope, speed and reach are unprecedented. Think of it: Just 10 […]

This Google AI created a ‘child’ AI to help it solve problems In brief Google’s AutoML project, designed to make AI build other AIs, has now developed a computer vision system that vastly outperforms state-of-the-art-models. The project could improve how autonomous vehicles and next-generation AI robots “see.” An AI That Can Build AI In May 2017, researchers at Google Brain announced the creation of AutoML, an artificial intelligence (AI) that’s capable of generating its own AIs. More recently, they decided to present AutoML with its biggest challenge to date, and the AI that can build AI created a “child” that outperformed all of its human-made counterparts. The Google researchers automated the design of machine learning modelsusing an approach called reinforcement learning. AutoML acts as a controller neural network that develops a child AI network for a specific task. For this particular child AI, which the researchers called NASNet, the task was recognizing objects — people, cars, traffic […]

Today, there are an estimated 6.4 billion devices connected to the internet, however, according to Gartner, by the year 2020, there will be 20.8 billion internet connected devices. It is also estimated that, in the same year, 12,000,000,000,000 GB of data will be transferred between connected devices. In order to improve upon previous iterations such as 4G LTE, fifth generation (5G) wireless connection developers will need to bring into play various emerging technologies such as multiple input, multiple output (MIMO). MIMO is a wireless connection technology that uses multiple transmitters and receivers at the source and endpoint to allow more data to be sent and received simultaneously and could help carry the burden of a continued increase in the […]

AI : Difference Between ML and DL.

Difference Between Machine Learning And Deep Learning Deep learning and machine learning both offer ways to train models and classify data. This article compares the two and it offers ways to help you decide which one to use. Let’s start by discussing the classic example of cats versus dogs. Now, in this picture do you see a cat or a dog? How are you able to answer? That chances are you’ve seen many cats and dogs over time and so you’ve learned how to identify them. This is essentially what we’re trying to get a computer to do. Learn from and recognize examples Also keep in mind that sometimes even humans can get identification wrong. So we might expect a computer to make similar errors. To have a computer do classification using a standard machine learning approach, we’d manually select the relevant features of an image such as edges or […]

Deep Learning in Medical

Deep Learning In Medical Imaging Diagnosis Machines capable of analysing and interpreting medical scans with super-human performance are within reach. Deep learning, in particular, has emerged as a promising tool in our work on automatically detecting brain damage. But getting from the lab into clinical practice comes with great challenges. How do we know when the machine gets it wrong? Can we predict failure, and can we make the machine robust to changes in the clinical data? We will discuss some of our most recent work that aims to address these critical issues and demonstrate our latest results on deep learning for analysing medical scans. Ben Glocker is a Lecturer in Medical Image Computing at the Department of Computing, Imperial College London. He holds a PhD from TU Munich, and was a post-doc at Microsoft Research Cambridge and a research fellow at the University of Cambridge. He received several awards […]

Deep Learning on Healthcare

Teaching Machines How To Spot Diseases Dr.Suchi Saria, holding a joint appointment in health system informatics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and Assistant Professor of Computer Science, Johns Hopkins University, presents “The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Healthcare”.   In less than a decade, the field of “artificial intelligence” or “AI” has been jolted by the extraordinary and unexpected success of a set of techniques now called “Deep Learning”. These methods (with some other related rapidly advancing technologies) already exceed average human performance in some kinds of image understanding; spoken word recognition and language translation; and indeed some tasks, like the game of Go, previously thought to require generalized human intelligence. Artificial Intelligence may soon replace humans in driving cars, coding new software, robotic caregiving, and making healthcare decisions. The societal implications are enormous. TARGETED REAL-TIME EARLY WARNING SYSTEM Dr. Suchi Saria is an assistant professor of […]

Natural Language Processing

Oxford Course On Deep Learning For Natural Language Processing Deep Learning methods achieve state-of-the-art results on a suite of natural language processing problems. What makes this exciting is that single models are trained end-to-end, replacing a suite of specialized statistical models. The University of Oxford in the UK teaches a course on Deep Learning for Natural Language Processing and much of the materials for this course are available online for free.( This is an advanced course on natural language processing. Automatically processing natural language inputs and producing language outputs is a key component of Artificial General Intelligence. The ambiguities and noise inherent in human communication render traditional symbolic AI techniques ineffective for representing and analysing language data. Recently statistical techniques based on neural networks have achieved a number of remarkable successes in natural language processing leading to a great deal of commercial and academic interest in the field This is an […]

Strong AI Vs. Weak AI

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the field of computer science dedicated to developing machines that will be able to mimic and perform the same tasks just as a human would. AI researchers spend time on finding a feasible alternative to the human mind. The rapid development of computers after its arrival 50 years ago has helped the researchers take great steps towards this goal of mimicking a human. Modern day applications like speech recognition, robots playing chess, table tennis and playing music have been making the dream of these researchers true. But according to AI philosophy, AI is considered to be divided in to two major types, namely Weak AI and Strong AI. Weak AI is the thinking focused towards the development of technology capable of carrying out pre-planned moves based on some rules and applying these to achieve a certain goal. As opposed to that, Strong AI is developing technology […]

Obstacles To Progress In Artificial Intelligence

Obstacles To Progress In Artificial Intelligence:    Yann LeCun The essence of intelligence is the ability to predict. Prediction, perception, planning/reasoning, attention, and memory are the pillars of intelligence. Both animals and humans learn to predict, learn how the world works, and acquire common sense largely without supervision, through observation and experimentation. This is a far cry from supervised learning—the basis of most recent successes in the application of deep learning. Significant progress in AI will require breakthroughs in unsupervised/predictive learning, as well as in reasoning, attention, and episodic memory. Yann LeCun describes several projects at FAIR and NYU on unsupervised learning for predicting videos using adversarial training, question answering with a new type of memory-augmented network, and various applications for vision and natural language understanding

Most Doctors Don’t Believe Artificial Intelligence Can Replace Human Doctors

In today’s world, we are heavily dependent on artificial intelligence in our day-to-day living. Featuring, “Watson correctly diagnoses women after doctors were stumped”, Curofy ran a poll within its community to find out if doctors in medicine could be replaced by artificial intelligence majorly if not completely. Although, not a very thin line, the difference in opinions was not more than 15 percent whereby out of 5725 poll participants 43 percent doctors opined that AI will indeed replace human doctors and 57 percent doctors disagreed with that notion  “From the most basic street and traffic signals to robots performing surgeries – artificial intelligence has penetrated almost every aspect of our daily lives. But, AI technology is not designed to replace doctors but to amplify their proficiency, intuition and the knowledge, ” said Pawan Gupta, co-founder of Curofy. “Artifical Intelligence/Automation has made things extremely easy compared to prior times,” he added […]
